It was only late last night, eighteen days after his sentence that the Governor of the Leipzig Prison informed Van der Lubbe that President von Hindenburg declined to exercise his privilege to pardon him, therefore, as he was condemned he must expect to die tu the morning.
Lubbe listened with the same apathy he exhibited at his trial and made, no reply when ques- tion as to whether he wanted a clergyman to attend him, nor did he express any special eve of execution wishes.
The executioner and his attend- ant worked all night to erect the guillotine in the prison yard.
