DERBY PROSPECTS FOR DIARY OF
THIS YEAR
Soldier of Britain and of China Strongly Fancied
DETAILS OF THE BEST CANDIDATES
(BY MORNING DEW"
Much ink has been spilled by racing scribes trying to find the winner of this year's Derby, and while it is no easy task to lay one's finger on the probable winner at this early date, it is however, quite evident that the small stables are going to be left in the cold this season,
As in former years, the Derby look as if it is going to one or the other of the big stables. There have been, so I hear, quite a number of purchases at very high prices and the interest displayed by owners over the Blue Riband of the Hong Kong Turf is a keen as it ever was.
Chinese owners are bent, it would seem, upon win- ning the Derby, and I am inclined to think that on the whole, they have a better chance of doing so this year than they ever had since President Hall won the event. for Mr. Ho Kom Tong in 1929.
RIVALRY AMONG LEADING STABLES
Before discussing the chances, let us see what the big stables have in the way of Derby candidates The following are candidates from the leading 'stables;~-
- Dunbar Stable, Oak Bay ((Grey)TM Sandy Bay (Roan) Boolat Bay (Chestnut) Chief Seattle (Bay)
Dynasty Stable. King's Warden (Iron-grey) King's Command (Bay). King's Fancy. (Iron, Grey) King's Worthy (Iron Grey) Trowbridge (grey)
Hem Stable, Macaroni (chestnut) Lembrey (chestnut) Bayardo (bay), Herod (grey) Gladiator (bay)
Li Shu Pang Stable. Soldier of China (Grey) Soldier of Britain (Grey) Boldier of Germany (Bay) Soldier of America (Black)
Ho Kom Tong Stable. Victoria Hall (Iron-grey) Albert Hall (bay) Great Hall (Dun) Banquet Hall (Chestnut) Radio Hall (Chestnut) Afrasiab Hall (Black)
Kong Bros Stable, Brilliant Star (Iron -grey). Popular Star (Ppl-Grey) New Star (Bay) Stage Star (Dil-Grey) Electric Star (Chestnut) Noble Star (Bay).
:
Trowbridge,
"
The best pony, in the "Dynasty" stable is a pony belonging to Mrs. Pearce named bridge, a grey of great promisk Many people, who are qualined is give an opin-b lon, think that Trowbridge will win the Derby this year.
Bear Trowbridge in mind, as he is a really good one,
King's Fancy is about the next beat in the stable, though King's Worthy and King's Warden are both quite good. King's Command Is the one kept over from last
year.
Bayardo.
