For the second time in five weeks the Bank of England's Reserve has reached a new high record. The present amount of the Reserve is £82,528,535, the previous highest being £81,282,684 touched on Sep- tember 20 last."
At this time last year the Reserve stood at £57,010,441, and at the end of December last it was as low as £24,400,615, That was follow- ing on the Debt payment of £15, 000,000 in gold to America, which- left the Bank's stock of the metal at £120,593,672.
The present gold holding of the Bank is £191,786,845, the big addition that has been made in the interim having been mainly due to gold purchases on behalf. of the Exchange Equalisation Account.
