In the mining section, owing to adverse exchange with Manila, very little was done in that class of shares, the only exception being the firmness of Raubs, which have registered an advance on the pre- vious weeks, and close at $12.90 buyers.

Norma Shearer is returned at £20,000 a picture-in sharp con- trast to Märle Dressler, who at 64 gets £35,000 a picture. And she is scarcely beautiful. Perhaps the fact that Norma Shearer's hus- band is the Metro-Goldwyn super- visor explains her relatively lowly remuneration. Ruth Chatterton gets £1800 a week on a 40-weeks- a year arrangement, and Helen Hayes about £20,000 a picture.

40 Bonds, Axia Landa, Limited, has receivedthe following report from their New York correspondents, E A. Fierce & Co. Most of the real excitement appears to be confined to the foreign exchange markets. The only apparent ronson for the strength of stocks is the old story of inflation, coupled with the usual reports that the Administration is more determined than ever to raisé commodity prices.

Wheat: Advancing sterling and the cheaper Dollar encouraged bay-" ing. Trade was broader and there were fair exports.

Cotton: Demand broadened perceptibly, coming from Europe, domes tic spinners and speculative sources... The strength of sterling was a big factor.

Silver: The continued talk regarding possible remonetisation creat ed bullish sentiment. Trading was heavy, setting a new volume record. Business Done: 2,000,000 shares.
