With the retirement from active Service of Bandmaster Joseph, L. Jecks, A.R.C.ML the members of the South Wales Borderers are losing, a comrade, soldier and musician for whom it will be hard to and an equal.

Bandmaster Jecks joined the Army on January 10, 1898 and be- came a member of the band of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. On December 1, 1908, he was promoted to bandmaster and immediately transferred to the Royal Irish Regiment. He became leader of the band of the South Wales Bor- derers in July, 1932 and has been with that regiment ever since.
