1. From Laichikok To Taipo Sails For America

(By Our Special Correspondent)

Maay an article has been written about the New Territories; I have done a few myself, but not in the samo strain as I propose to do in a series of which this is the first. I shall call the articles "Round The New Territories, and in them will endeavour to describe the ride round this big stretch of land which, day by day, is being brought more up-to-date in every possible man ner and form, even as regards the methods of farming including the time honoured methods of cultivation of

rice.

To attempt to cover the whole of the New Territories in one article would be hopeless the course I propose to

follow then is to do it in sections, and for a start, I'll take "Laichikok-Taipo". Practically every one of my readers must have done this trip, but how many of them, I wonder, have taken stock of everything they see on the way? It is a peculiar thing that when the average man sets out for a sight- seeing tour, he does everything but pay full attention to the details of the places he passes, and yet when the trip is done he would sit back and aigh a nigh of the contented and say The first thing that strikes one of this trip is the stiff climb until the reservoir is reached, and then one is greeted with one of the prettiest sights in the New Territories. Situated as it is, the Reservoir looks more like ornamental lake on some country estate than anything so utilitarian as a re. servoir.

line these all contribute towards the exquisite beauty of the Kowloon Reservoir.
