Katharine Hepburn, the Ameri- can girl who was taken from a Broadway play to give such memor. able performances in "A Bill of "Christopher Divorcement and Strong," scores another triumph in "Morning Glory."

The story (clearly written and faultlessly directed by Lowell Sherman) opens in a mood of pure comedy. A small town girl comes to Broadway, ambitious to be an actress To everybody who will listen she confidea, with a naïveté at once touching and extraordin arily funny, ber, intention to be come not merely a great. Ectress, but the greatest.."

But gradually you feel that she is right, that her childish self-con- fidence is really the serenity of self- knowledge; and it is a proof of Miss Hepburn'a quality that when, after disillusionment and heart break, she does win success, she makes you believe it was inevitable and not merely a dramatist's de- vice.

Alexander Kirkland and Dorothy Jordan have the leading characteriza lions in "Bondage," the new For To mance that is said to give them the best opportunities of their respective careers. IPC

STARS."

Mr. Roosevelt's Limit

By declaring that in his opinion no film star should be paid more than £500 a week, President Roose volt has brought a new chance of success to the smaller film produc- ing companies in Hollywood.

I understand that the President expressed that view on salaries when he was recently in conference with Mr. S. Rosenblatt, deputy Nira administrator for the amuséempt industries.

The suggestion may well mark the end of the undisputed reign of the larger companies. In the past these have been able to pay salaries with which their smaller rivale could not compete,

In addition the President hopes that his view will eliminate cases of extra performers being paid only tos a day for eighteen hours' work.

DANCER-SEARCH FOR THE FILM LIFE" OF PAVLOVA

From Our Film Critic, Ernest Belts

A film is to be made in Holly- wood of the life of Anna Pavlova, the great Russian dancer, who for years reigned supreme among the ballet dancers of the world.

The film is to be produced by Jesse Lasky, the Fox producer, who has purchased the rights of André Olivereff's book, "Flight of the Swan," an intimate biographical tady of the dancer's life. Mr. Olivereff was a great friend of Pavlova and nd one time a member of her company.

Production of the film will entail an international search for a star to play the dancer's role. Mr.. Laeky, in announcing his plans to day, admits that there is in Hollywood capable of portray ing Pavolva's dancing and person- ality."

Pavlova died in January, 1931, after a career as a dancer begun in 1907. She was at the height of her powers just before the war, when Diaghilev company and electrified she danced with Nijinsky in the London by the brilliance and per-v fection of her- art.
