Emergency

Measures"

CANTON AND THE BLUE

SHIRTS SCARE

(From Our Special. Correspondent)

Canton, October 17.

· To

prevent trouble makers from spreading alarming rumours against the Kuomintang and the Government, and from starting civil .commotion, the Kwangtung Provincial Government to-day made public its instructions to county magistrates, mayora towns and judges to arrest such auspicius characters.

04

The authorities recently receiv ed' Information that mischievous characters from other parts of the ∙country have arrived in different countries in the Interior of Kwang- tung to create disturbances “en- dangering the Party and the nation."

Recently there was a big scare in Canton that certain alleged Blue Shirts were attempting to stage a coup d'etat here, but thanks to the vigilance of the police and military authorities several of their leaders were arrested. There is no more danger in this city, as the military authorities, believe that these troublesome agents have left Canton for elsewhere. Ma? To ensure the public safety of Canton, the military authorities here will shortly embark upon "winter emergency · measures earlier than tisual and will extend these precautions until 'after the Chinese New Year.
