TO-DAY'S INTERPORT

BOWLS

Hongkong Team Confident Of Victory:

Shanghai Not Favoured

MARGIN OF VICTORY

TO BE SMALL

(BY "TOUCHËR``}

EXPECTED

The Shanghai and Hongkong Lawn Bowls interport match will be decided to-day.

Hitherto Hongkong and Shanghai have each won a match and the game to-day will settle who are the better players this season.

His Excellency the Governor will be among the

game spectators at the Police Green to-day where the scheduled to start at 2,30 p.m.

is

Hongkong will be represented by R. Hall, B. W. Bradbury, J. C. Brown and U. M. Omar (skip), and are" confidently expected to win. One of the leading lawn bowls players of the Colony gave it as his opinion that Although Hongkong should win they would be lucky to emerge victorious by more than five shots.

SHANGHAI'S BAD WEEK A

HANDICAP

The Shanghai team is not yet, announced, but will probably be Lopes, Bailey, Richards and Main (Skip). This will be about the best team Shanghai can put on the fleld as Remedios is not, very ...dependable, and Malcolm certain- ly is not the player he was on his last visit

Shanghai has had a bad week since winning the second inter- port match, as they went" under to Craigengower C.C., to the second division players and to the Kow loon Dock Recreation Club. How- ever, the most important thing to remember is that Main and Richards were not playing at skip and No. 3 respectively and the strength of the Shanghai team tie mainly in these two playing at these positions.

Should Hongkong secure an early lead, it can be confidently expected that Omar will hold on to it. He is in my opinion the best skips in the Colony and it was wise to choose him to skip the most important match of the series. Omar knows exactly what to ask of his men and provided they oblige him with the right kind of shots, Hongkong has no- thing to fear. As the last man in the team, Omar has that as curacy that makes him such a thorn in the side of the opposing

team,

Main is very reliable for draw-

ing the short, in a tight corner, but I am afraid, I have not the same respect for his driving as I have for that of Richards. How- ever, for all we know, Richards out as skip of the may turn Ghanghai sida, to-day.

SHANGHAI GOES DOWN

ONE SIDE MATCH AT KOW-

LOON DOCKS

Playing at the Kowloon Dock Recreation Club, the Shanghai Lawn Bowls team, represented by, Bailey, Main, Richards and Mal- colm went down to the Kowloon Docks by 16 shots to 25. The Kowloon Dock team consisted of J. V. Ramsey, J, Kempton, S. W Grigg and W. Hedley..

The visitors drew first blood but the Docks had things all their own after that and by the tenth head, were standing at 14-4.

The tea interval helped Shang- hal to change the game to some entent pulled up by scoring a sin-. gie followed by a four, but after

away that the Dockites drew again to lead by 20-9. Shanghai scored five shots from the 15th to the 18th head, but in the very Two singles next concceded ve

in the concluding heads brought the game to a close.

The cricket controversy has been revived by cricketers comments on the exchange of friendly cables between Australia and England on the subject of "body-line" bowling.

Harold Larwood said that he would continue to bowl the leg trap unless expressly forbidden to do so, while George Duckworth the Lancashire and All-England stumper who toured Australia last winter, declared that the Austra- lian, Board of Control. never ox- tended the courtesies customary as hosta.

The "Sydney Herald" says that Duckworth's irritating contribu- tion may encourage certain of the 'Board's members, who' are up- parently indisposed to let bygones be bygones.
