Attempted Escape From Jail ↑ A few days ago two keys were found behind a frame on a wall of the Macao Public Jail These keys were accidentally found by a warder and it was noticed that they fitted to the lock of the main gate and of a cell where a prisoner was confried. Together with these keys a sum of 830.00 in notes was found, this being presumably intended to pro vide the prisoner's escape from Macao.

Confidence in Future of the

Mother Country

Dr. Percival de Oliveira, a wall. known brazilian journalist on return. ing to Brazil from an extensive visit to Portugal delivered a lecture at the Portuguese Club of S. Paalo, Brazil, in which he emphasized, that after Dr. Salazar's programme of reconstruction had been fully carried out, Portugal and her colonies would show the world. a magnificient example of determina tion and discipline, in conjunction with sound administration and na tional spirit.

This interesting lecture was publish. ed in the leading newspapers of Brazil and Portugal,

Manchester City's Problem

(Special All-Mail Service)

London, Sept. 28. Manchester City will probably be keen on the scent for a centre-

forward after Halliday's display at Middlesbrough. The famous. Scot did not hold out much hope, of solving-their-probiera

He worked very hard, and he was not supported as he might have been, but he was not quick enough.

The City are temporarily handi- capped by the injury to Tilson, who has resumed light training. but they have need of a strong and forceful leader.

Prospective International "Injured Matthew Busby, the Manchester City right half-back, who is said to be a very likely candidate for his first Scottish International cap in the match against Wales ac Cardiff on Wednesday week, was one of several City players who were. In the "wars at Mindlesbrough on Saturday.

One of his team mates was the cause of it. Toseland accidentally kicked him on the knee as they were going for the ball together, and for some time Busby was in considerable pain.

He, however, seemed .to have thoroughly recovered after the match, and nothing serious is an- ticipated.

Southampton's Way

A very interesting letter comes to hand, from Mr. George Kay, the manager of the Southampton club, who tells me that he has just sign- ed W. Light, another product of the nursery at The Dall on "pro- fessional forms.

Light ha has only been with the club seven montrs, is a goal- keeper, and he is splendidly equip- ped physically for the position. He Stands 5ft 11in and weighs 12st... and he is only 19 years of age.

Both the Arst and the reserve team goalkeepers are Hampshire born players.

Mak.ng Things Move

Apart from the club, Mr. Kay, who is, of course, the former West Ham United full-back, is doing splendid work for the game in the

county.

"

He is out to make things move in Hampshire, and apparently he is doing $0. Before the season started trials were given to be- Alec Herd has been making a tween 70 and 30 young players, and Mr. Kay is keeping them all un- reputation

The power he gets behind his shots is remarkable, especially for

But Herd seems to be relying ra- ther too much on his chooting for the benefit of his side. He is too inclined to stand off waiting for chances, and does not follow up as he might do.

די

A Clever Young Back A young player who would seem destined for "honoura is R. Stuart- the left fun-back of Middles- brough.

There is not a great deal of him. but he is a grand little player and one of the fastest defenders in the game.

Mr. Kay makes a point of hay-- ing a word' with each of them. and he tells me that he is assisted enthusiastically in his work of in- structing the boys by his : two trainers Bert Lee and A Shelley,

And in addition to all this, b Kay is going about the county lec- turing and visiting junior clubs to give them the benefit of his ex- perience on play and tactics.

There should be a boom in Hampshire football as the result of

all this.

Unlucky Crayston

An X-ray examination of Jack Crayston, the Bradford half-back, who was injured at Nottingham on Saturday, has shown that he is suffering from a fractured wrist and a chipped bone in the arm.

Bradford have signed John Urwin, a centre-forward, of Throckley Welfare, North-Eas- tern League club, formerly played for Bradford City and Ches terfield.

A further sensational revelation was made by the police to-day. They declare that Nakazono compelled to 1932, inclusive, saw the greatest Dr. Kodama to prepare poison, which he forced Miss Kimi Yoke building boom in Manila.
