V.R.C. LEADS FROM SHANGHAI
Hadley Proves Outstanding But Loses The 440
L. R. PEREIRA IN GLORIOUS FORM
His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Peel, ac- "companied by Lady Peel and party were among the large contest between gathering at the interport swimming Hongkong and Shanghai held at the bath of the Victoria H.E. Major General Recreation Club last evening. Borrett was also amongst those present.
The main attraction of the evening's programme was the 440 yards free style race in which L. Roza Pereira and F. Hadley, representing Hongkong and Shanghat respectively fought out one of the most thrilling races Both swimmers were cheered by their supporters and one could not hear oneself for the tremendous excite- ment which prevailed when Pereira, inch by inch, to-. wards the end of the race, forged ahead to win by a matter of two and a half yards.
Earlier in the evening HaDley created a bath record for the V.R.C. when he won the 50 yards free style in 25 seconds flat. E. B. da Roza was second, two-fifths of a second behind. Lawrence was third.
At the close of the evening's programme Hongkong led by 27 points to 23. The sports will be resumed next Monday.
