NEW RESOLUTION!

HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1933.

CRICKET NOTES YESTERDAY'S TRAINING CONSIGNER NOTICES.

The Coming Inter-

ports

(BY "L. B. W.')

Cricket enthusiasts will welcome the news that there will definitely be a triangular interport contest here this November as news has been received from Malaya that they

will be sending up a team by the

... Chitral which is due to arrive. on November 2 The Shanghai side is expected to arrive in the Colony on November 10, and while the Southerners will stay here until November 18, the Northerners' stay will extend untü November 29, 1

The last time we had a triangular contest here was in 1929 when Hong Kong carried, the honours by beating both the visiting teams.

The interport programine has not been arranged yet but a meeting of The Committee of the Hong Kong Cricket Club will be held this after- noon when fixtures and other ar rangements in general will be dis- cussed.

"HONG KONG PREPARING.

So far as Hong Kong is concern rd, the "possibles" and "probables" are already hard at practice and quite a useful eleven "ought to be ready towards the middle of Octo ber. The great thing is to chose the team first and then give theu: as

| many practice matches as possible "working so as to get them in order."

I

I was on the Hoog Keng Cricket' Club ground on Monday and Tues day evenings, to watch some of the candidates for interport honours at the nets. On Monday, R. H. Grif fiths wiza the earliest arrival, and although it was his first practice in the season. he appeared to be seeing the ball quite well and getting it in the middle of the bat. Up to date. he has been somewhat disappointing but he is definitely a good class bat, and, with practice, I would not be at all surprised to see him get a place in the team

T. A Pearce was also seen action on Monday and he was out again the following afternoon when Harry Owen Hughes was also there, It was good to see "Tam" Pearce practising so early in the season and it is to be hoped that he will find. the time to put in enough practica to get track his old form and tura out for the Colony again.

I hear that Dick Hancock, the Grand Old Man of Hong Kong Cricket, is thinking of taking ap the game seriously again. Although | iuth be and Pearce wmust be regard ed as veterans, it is getteral felt that if they only put in enough practice, they would both find a place in the team easily. Apart from being an excellent slip and a punishing bat, Hancock has made a name for himself as the ideal skip- per, and his very presence on the field lends an incentive to the men. The claims of the candidates from the other Clubs will have to be seri; ously considered. First of all there is Teddy Fincher of Kowloon who is almost a certainty. From the same club, players like Frank Goodwin, Ernie Fincher, G. C.

Final Tryouts Before Race

Meeting On Saturday

Below will be found the training times registered at the course yesterday. For many ponies yesterday's gal.... lops represent the final tryout before the races on Satur- day.

Among the ponies which did well were No Fear, De Minimis. Philanderer, Sunup, Vigilance and Gay Butter- Ay. Their times will be found below. :

There was a drizzle in the morning which turned into heavy rain after seven o'clock. This accounts for the. fact that although yesterday's gallops were in the nature of a final tryout, the times were on the slow side. 2nd 3rd 4th Qr. Qr. Qr. 1.10.3 .1.10
