LUTON SCORES TEN

AGAINST TORQUAY

Another full programme of Home Football matches was carried out over the week-end and although the results of most of the games turned out as expected, the programme was not entirely free of upsets, the most prononuced one being the defeat of Aston Villa by Tottenham in a closely contested match. The Hotspurs played very well together and the score in their favour 3-2 is a good indication of the general run of play.

The Arsonal took full points from Wednesday, but they only just managed to do so by the odd goal in three. This "may perhaps be accounted for by the fact that Wednes day had the advantage of playing on home soil.

HOME CRICKET

Champion County Lose On First Innings

There was a very good attend- ance at the V.R.C. on Saturday when the Club held one" of their monthly night fetes. The main ty attractions, of course, were the Co- lony's Long Plunge Championship and the open event for Throwing the Polo Ball.

In the Long Plunge S. H. Gar rod, who won last year, did not defend his title: having left the Colony for Manila"en Friday for a business trip. He will be back in time, it is understood, for the Interport.

J. R. Soares, with a plunge of 55 feet won the event beating J. A: Victor, a former champion' by a little over 3 feet. Victor had only recently returned from the North and was not in training.

T. Paget threw no less that 68 feet in the Polo Ball event and was an easy winner. W. Lawrence. one of the best short distance swimmer in the Colony was second with a throw of 61 feet, while B. Cosana took third place with 591 feet.

The Club events were quite a

P. W. L. D.F. A.Pts success, the quarter mile handi- cap. being the tit-bit of the pro- gramme. The local champion, L. Roza Pereira, won the event des- pite the fact that he was concea- ing a considerable handicap to the rest of the competitors. E. B. da Roza, who received 15 seconds held the lead until two lengths from home when Pereira caught him finish. and in a thrilling up won by a matter of a couple or yards.

Campbell in the finals of the 200 yards race in the Hong Kong International Amateur Swimming Association's, sports held at the YMCA, Kowloon on Saturday night.
