The Devil Is Driving.” starring. Edmund Lowe, Wynne Gibson and James Gleason, started on its run at the Queen's Theatre yesterday. It is a crook" Alm but.different from most as the. story is not about the usual rackets but depicts the modus operant of a "hot car gang, that is a gang that steals cars and changes their appearance in so short E space of time that even if the police are hot on their track, they would not be able to recognise, the stolen vehicles. The headquarters of the gang is the Metropolitan Garage, whose innocent exterior hides the operat- Ing base of the bosses of the gang. Ostensibly Allam Dinehart is the head but actually he is acting under orders from a sinister char- acter called The Dummy portray- ed by George Rosener."
They are making a good thing of their "trade when the easy-going wise-cracking Jimmy (Edmund Lowe) Is introduced into the garage by his brother-in-law Beef Evans (James Gleason).
Lowe wisely lets things side and turns a blind eye to the shady going-ons in the place but he is shaken out of his phlegm when his nephew is crippled by the gang and his brother-in-law murdered. He suddenly becomes a man of action and determines to clean up the gang.
He succeeds in the end but only after a series of thrilling adyen- tures that make the picture of the best of its kind seen for a long time.
the equally. Wynne Gibson, as wise-cracking woman of the world in whom Lowe meets his match, 'has a role which fits her perfectly and she makes the best use of it.
Humour and drama are well- blended in this pleture and there are thrills a-plexity, Some of the scenes of motor-cars driven at break-neck speed are really re- markable and the final crash in which the leaders of the gang are-
