KUALA LUMPUR SCHOOL TO CLOSE
Parents Alarmed At Rumoured Official Plans
Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 22. Parents in Kuala Lumpur are. much perturbed over a rumour that the Government has decided to colse down the Maxwell Road school at the end of the year.
This is one of the three English elementary schools maintained by the Government in Kuala Lumpur and it has an enrolment of about 500 boys.
.
The star comprises 17 teachers. including two Europeans.
It is understood that this purely a retrenchment measure and that a saving of about $80,000 a year will be affected... What will happen both to the boys and the teachers is a "very open question.
There is, one other elementary school in the same district, the Batu Road school, which has two empty rooms and may take in a number of the boys, while a few others may be accommodated at the Pasar Road school
It seems probable, however, that about 450 boys ranging from seven to 14 years of age will have to seek education, in mission or pri- vate schools.

As for the teachers, it is difficult to know what can become of them, as there are no vacancies in other schools. These teachers (who have not yet received notice) are fully qualified:
