Craigengower Defeats the

Champion Club Close On The Heels Of Bowling Green; First Obstacle Surmounted
FULL RESULTS OF SATURDAY'S
MATCHES
Craigengower Cricket Club registered-a decisive victory over Civil Service in their first division match on Satur- day and thus still remain in the race for league leader- ship. The champions won on all three rinks and it is not likely that they will go down to Civil Service in their return match.
The Bowling Green accounted for the Police fairly easily and they have one more match to go, and, should they win, they will be either champions, or joint cham- pions.

In the junior division, the race is still between the Bowling Green and Craigengower, with the odds slightly in favour of the former. Both registered victories on Saturday.
The match at the Kowloon Docks ground between the twa Docks resulted in a win for the bome team by 1 shot. The Club de Recreio visited the Kowloon C.C. and were sent home defeated.
In the second division the results provided no surprise, but the victory of the Police R.C. over the Kowloon. C.O. was a very decisive one, the home team getting a margin to their credit of 39 shots!

OUR LONDON AIR- MAIL LETTER
(Vavtinued from Page 13
That Extra Threepence. The increase of threepence in the cost of each hiring of taxi-cäb in London, which is to come into force on August 1, leaves one wondering who exactly will benefit
At present sixpence on the clock usually means a shilling from the passenger. Ninepence on the clock will still produce i shilling.
On the same principle will 18: ed on the "clock be rewarded, as eighteenpence was, with a forn, or shall we search for an odd three- pence ?
Perhaps as the owner-drivers. are now so large a proportion of the whole. it means that the taxi-man is making sure of his tip.

The Screen on Canvas.
The exhibition of "back-screen pictures," by Ian Campbell-Gray, now on view on Tooth's Galleries, New Bond-street, seems the first attempt to capture for posterity the constantly changing panorama associated with art's newest medium -the cinem
The oil paintings capture in still life the fantastic chaos of the film studio, and as Mr. Campbell-Gray has been a very successful art director of many films for Mr. Anthony Asquith and other well- known directors, it is obvious that the artist knows h's work from all angles.
It is given to fow to be both mirror and reflection, but Mr. Campbell-Gray in his pictures is both subject, and artist, «
Masonic Splendour.
It is the and fad of many fine buildings in London to be buried in comparative "obscurity.
I fear that the new Masonic Peace Memorial, dedicated with such splendid ritual by the Duke of Connaught, must be included in that category
If it stood in an open square of some noble thoroughfare all Lon- dan would be talking of the gleam- ing white palace which has arisen. As it is, it brilliantly lights up and tho purlieus of Long-care Drury-lane and the faded memories of Great Queen-street, in which it stands.
For that, not Kingsway, is the esthetic line of approach.

The Hon Violet Cust has. Bent for sale at Sotheby's that copy of Boswell's Life of Samuel John- Bon," which the biographer inscrib- ed and presented in 1791 to Dr Joseph Goodall, afterwards head- master and provost of Eton..
On July 31 some generous Old Etonian might think of this as an appropriate gift to the college library.

Goodall had the reputation af hating all innovations." William IV once said in his presence: "When you go I'll make Keate pro- vost."
Goodall quietly replied: "I could not think of going before your Majesty."

As he died in 1840.(when Robert Cust bought the Boswell) he kept bis word.
