KIDNAPPER SENT TO PRISON

CHINESE WOMAN'S SERIOUS OFFENCE"

Kowloon Magistracy" proceedings against a Chinese woman named Leung Yau resulted in her being sent to prison for "twelve months by Mr. Butters for kidnapping & child from a bouse in Temple Street. Another woman who was charged with being an accessory before the fact was discharged, the Magistrate reinarking that there did not ap pear to be any evidence against her, except the allegations of the first defendant'

SPLENDID WORK BY FIRE BRIGADE

Four people were killed and four others seriously injured in a fire which broke out at 393, Reclamation Street, shortly after 1.30 a.m. yesterday.

The casualty list was as follows

Chin Yuk, female, aged 75, of 395, Reclamation -Street, 1st floor;

Lo Fuk, female, aged 35, of the same address: Yeung Stiet Tak, male, aged 6, son of Lo Fuk; and,

Chu Chai, male, aged 6, of the same address.

The extent of the damage has not yet been assessed, though we learnt from a reliable source that the contents of the gunny bag shop on the ground floor of 303, Reclamation Street, were insured for $1,000.

THE DAMAGE

at about 1.30 am, and is believed the first to have originated floor of 393 Reclamation Street, which was occupied by a firm of makers. The ground cardboard floor was occupied by the Chung Chang Kee gunny bag shop and the flames soon got hold of the bags and spread with such rapidi- by that in a few minutes it was evident that the fire brigade would have a hard job on their hands. They tackled, the situation, how ever, with commendable slacrity, and soon had the fire under con trol. Many people on the upper floors of both Nos, 393 and 383 8000 found themselves' trapped but here again the Fire Brigade showed their worth, and, braving the rag- ing flames, the fire fighters enter-

Apart from those mentioned above, several other people were injured though the nature of their injuries were comparatively alight. The body of the old woman, Chiu Yuk, was recovered amongst the debris on the 1st floor of No. 295, where she lived.

Pun Shan, & pastry cook, was in- jured as he made a desperate leap for liberty from the third floor of onto the street.
