August 3, 1558. We extract from the Government Gazette, the charges made against Mr. Caldwell, and the finding of the Committee appointed "to inves tigate the same. We can come to no other conclusion than that the committee exonerate him on the grounds of simplicity. Although we cannot conceal our amazement at the tenor of the finding, we re- serve our remarks upon it until more mature réfections shall en- able us

to realise its meaning, which we confess we are at present unable to do..
