Bowling Green and Craigengower will settle this, week-end the ques- tion of who is going to win the Lengue as they are meeting at Happy Valley. A win for the Bowling Green would be fatal to Craigengower's chances.

Police' and No. 13

Now that the Policy hava de- Buitely broken the spell which pre- vented them from winning senior league games on the home ground, they will probably finish high up in the league table. Their defents of Recreio and Taikoo in consern;

Racing

The Australian ponies for next- season will be here on Saturday by thes. Tanda and once again, I' espect, owners and others interest. ing will form an admiring crowd at the drawing, which, I under- stund will take place next week. Those who subscribe for Australian ponies vertainly get their money's worth and although a good deal of Criticism might be passed on the candidates at the time of the draw, they generally manage to get into good shape by the time they are, due to race. There is still another seven weeks before any racing will tako place and meanwhile the various stables are giving their

·Candidates a real summer holiday.

Swimming

Since writing my last notes, I understand from good authority that the statement that the Houg Kong International Amateur Swi ming Association are conducting Colony's championships is incer reet. They are holding their own chempionships confined to members of the Association. The V.R.C., therefore, is the only institution conducting the Colony's champion- ships in the Autumn, and, I have beer assured that the sports will be open to all comers, whether they belong to this, that, or the other institution. The 'H.E.I.A.S.A. are now affiliated to the English Swim ming Association and no doubt in due course they will conduct their sports after the rules of the Home Lody.

Mixed Doubles Shield

The Chinese Recreation Club has won the Dunlop Shield. By their defeat of Club de Recreio in the Mixed Doubles League they have confirmed what was already" a practical tertainty, and for the first time in the history of the Club they have taken first place in the Mixed Doubles Tennis.

Their defeat of the Portuguese Club was a crushing one. They were, on paper at least, weakened by the absence of Ho Ka Lau, who has gone North on holidays but this substitute, W. C. Hung, played well. Hung and his partner, Miss R. Perry, took all three sets, and Tani Wai Pui and Mrs. Chui being equally successful, the Chinese won by seven sets to two.

Hundred Per Cent.

Record

O.R.C. are worthy champions, being the only team with a 100 per cent, record; United Services, last year's champious, are next with one mateli lost, to the new champions. In the past the Chinese have been prevented from accomplishing what they have now succeeded in doing by the weakness of their lady play- ets but the strength of their ladies collectively is greater this year, despite the absence of Mrs Litton. It is now the turn of the Indian B.O. to "grouse and some of their members have nately been heard 3

the

Thu Mixed Doubles programme has now been practically completed. There is only one match left and this will be played on August 4 when R.C. and Recreio meet to decide who is to have bottom place and whether the Recreio keep up their record of no match won.

The Indain Recreation Club sprang & surprise on tennis fana yesterday evening when they met a strong Kowloon team and heat them by 6 sets to 9.

The only "B" Division match played during the last week between the University and the Indians. In this game the latter won easily, losing only one set, but this success, although gratifying in itself, will hardly help them in the fight for the Shields as they have. already. lost two matches.

The chief fentures of the "C" Division games played since the last notes in this column were written was the beating of Civil Service by Central British Asso ciation. The latter are regarded as the "bale" of the League, this being their first year, and their win provided one of the biggest sur prises of the 'season. J. Skinner and N. Bebbington For Civil Ser vice had a somewhat queer experi- ence in this game. They drew in all three sete. Another surprise

provided by the Indian R.C. who, in the course of five days twice went down to teams admittedly weaker than themselves. On Thurs- day they visited the Army Ground" and came back beaten by six sets to three, while on Monday, they entertained Kowloon Docks and just lost a hard fought match.

In spite of good bowling by V. A. Valentine, who took 5 for 73, Durham totalled 258. The West indies fared poorly against the slow bowling of Woodhouse, who bowled unchanged, and were all out for 140. Woodhouse claiming 5. for 73.
