Canton To Hankow Overland

HONAM FIRE SEQUEL

· CANTON, July 27. The prospects for the early astab lishment of direct overland coun munication batween Canton and Hankow seem bright, following the

Kunouncement of the focal Depart-

ment of Reconstruction that a firm

has already been awarded the con tract and will immediately com- mence work on the building of the road between Kau Fung and i Chang, border towns in the provin ces of Kwangtung and Human res pectively. The road from Shiukwan (for practical purposes still the ter minus of the southern section of the Canton-Hankow Railway) to Kau Fung has been completed and is already in use; while from I Change a road has for some time existed running to points north, making a connection with the nor- thern section of the Canton-Han kow Railway. The building of the road from Kau Fung to I Chang, as is now taken up, will therefore fill the only remaining gap in the overland route linking up the chief cities in South and Central China.
