What should, amount to a new. era in steel construction-The Era of Alloy Steels has been opened up by the production in Europe of steels of greatly increased tensile strength at a cost not very much in excess of that, of ordinary atrue- tural teel. Increased tensile strength, of course, means that less steel will be required to carry a given load. These new steels mean, therefore, that in future the costs of steel construction will be sub- stantially reduced.
The first instance of the large scale manufacture of a high tensile structifral steel in Britain was the 87,000 tons of special silicon steel manufactured by Dorman Long & Co., Ltd, for use in the Sydazy Harbour Bridge. Ever since, Dor- man Long have been investigating the possibilities of producing a high quality steel which could be sold at
Mr. Sanders-Bates was walking south on the grass when he saw Mr. Crighton walking leisurely along the patch on the waterfront in the opposite direction. He was quite sure it was the, deceased, whom he had known casually for some ter price only slightly above that of to fifteen years, and noticed the usual quality, and as a result nothing abnormal about him except they have evolved a chrome-copper that he was wearing no hat. The latter did not see the wit 11:56, as be was looking straight ahead, but Mr. Sanders-Bates no- ticed him, as he had not seen Mr. Craighton there before, and that, he thought, was why he "remarked on his appearance there.
