Sta,-1 should like to what your special correspondent saye

about the buses. I have twice. had my toes trodden upon by awkward young men from up-country, who seem to have no idea of keeping their feet, let alone giving out the proper tickets and the right change. As to answering queries they know less about Kowloon than any one else in the place.

My own chief grumble is the ind- equate way in which the Company is catering for the rush hours parti cularly in the morning.Buses seem fewer than they used to be and they struggle slowly pass the stops with the sign

Bus Full" prominently displayed and, of necessity disre- garding the small knots of exas perated people trying to get to set to work more or less on time.

A certain amount has been said about the buses speeding too much They may do now and again but most of them are painfully slow and shaky, and she does not wander at it when one hears the grinding of the gears and the squrak of the brakes under the heavy handed

drivers.

At the Kowloon Magistracy yes- terday before Mr. Butters, Wong Ying and Wong Sau, chief engineer Steam launch Tak Hing" who and coxswain respectively of the were charged with larceny were dis charge after hearing argument ad vanced by Mr. Peter Sin who re- presented the accused.

Inspector Rowswky conducted the prosecution.

Wong Shi, the owner of the launch testified in the witcess box that between April 1931 and July 6, 1933 the accused stole various arti cles on board the launch including several hundred feet of chains, 90 life belts, 4 canvas sails and 8 tons of bar iron, It was contended by who had the sole charge of the the prosecution that the detendants launch stole these articles whilst employed as servants therein.

Mr. Sin argued that his clients must be discharged as the prosecu- tion had not discharged its duty, namely the onus. of proof. He maintained that that onus never hifted and in every case the pro- becution must adduce the requisite evidence in support of the charge, and in the absence of any definite proof that the defendant did take and carry away the goods alleged to have been stolen the charges against them could not be sustained might be was not sufficient in a and suspicion, however grave, if

case of that kind.
