HONG KONG FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION MEETING

Several Rules Amended: Large Donations To Charities

Chairman Reviews Past Year's Activities

The annual general meeting of the Hong Kong Foot- ball Association was held at the Sports Club last evening, the Hon. Dr. R. H. Kotewall presiding.

In reviewing the year's activities, the Hon. Dr. Kote- wall said that last year saw the local team win the In- terport for the first time on foreign soil. As a result of the substantial increase in gate receipts from the Sunday Herald Cup competition, the Association was thus enabled to make contributions to several worthy charitable in- stitutions which it was not able to help in the previous year. Since its formation the Association has donated no less than $42,000 to local charities.

Several amendments in rules were also proposed, and the most interesting one was perhaps that in which non- resident players should not be allowed to take part in local competitions. It was, however, defeated.

SIR THOMAS SOUTHORN ELECTED PRESIDENT

Addressing Kotewall, said:

Mr. B. M. Dyer,

At the beginning of this year Mr. R. M. Dyer resigned from the position of President of our Asso- ciation on leaving the Colony for good, I should like to express here my own regret at the ever- ance of nearly seven years' happy association with a colleague whose ability and impartiality have won' my respect and admiration.

The report discloses a satisfac tory year's work, and calls for few Coinments. One of the most gra- tifying features revealed therein is the Interport match won by the team we sent up to Shanghai in November last. It was the first occasion on which an Association team sent up to the Northert port had been successful in wresting victory from our friends there. We heartily congratulate the team as The Association is indeed fortun. well as the joint managera. (Apate in having found a worthy sue. plause). It must have cea a mat- cessor to Mr. Dyer in the Hon. Sir ter of great consolation to the Thomas Southorn whose qualities Shanghai Football Association to eminently fit him for the position, have come down here and taken and cannot bat be a great asset to their revenge & lew months after the Association. I am sure all of you would like to join with me in taking this opportunity of tender- ing to Sir Thomas our hearty con- which His Majesty the King has gratulations on the high Eonour recently conferred on him.
