pony,
Until a year or two ago, it was well-nigh impossible for anybody to get any riding at all. By riding one must understand that I mean no decent hack ponies were avail- able, but this has been remedied to a very great extent and the public can enjoy riding at will, thanks to the enterprise of a few Russian gentlemen.
P
When the Hong Kong Jockey Chub moved to their new and very modern stables in Wong Nei Cheong, the old stables at Cause- way Bay, formerly known as the Kennedy Stables" were taken over by the gentlemen, mentioned above and they were converted into what is now known as the Hong Kong Riding School. This proved very popular, for not only were lessons given to those who desired to letin how to handle pony, but the management also made arrange ments for a certain number of animals to be set aside, for hire.
The writer has himself taken out some of three ponies a number of times, and because the animals were so well-trained that they could be lively without being a nuisance over to the novice, they proved very popular and the Hong Kong Riding School earned the deep gratitude of a number of people,
In Ma Tau Kok.
However, the stabies soon changed hands and the site on where it had stood from time immemorial was
destined to be converted into a small city away from the city as the new owners planned to put up a number of up-to-date buildinga on it.

Army Division from Japan to Kores, he has conferred with Gen: eral Araki, Minister for War. He hopes that the general lines of this plan will be determined in the next Becal year and its execution will be in the following year. He is not vety particular about the location
I went to the riding school one day last week and saw a number of poaies, including an Australian, housed in a shed about 20 yards from the main road. By the stablo this, I was informed, was the office, is a small wooden building | näd

An Ideal Place.
This place in an ideal spot for riding school as it is away from the city and with sa little motor traffic about, there is no danger to over the beginners if they should want to take their mounts out on the roads It is, however, the rural aspect of the place that makes it so appeal and although I do not think the people concerned are con templating permanent stables yet awhile, I cannot but feel that more people would go out to the place if they knew how pleasant it really
quite apart, of course, from the main attraction which is an enjoy- able ride on perfectly trained ponies..
During the last month or so, part of the stable has been moved over' La Repulse Bay and the ponies are. housed in the ground floor of the garage. When I want out the other day, I saw four ponies there but I have since learnt that if the sup- port forthcoming warrants it there. is a possibility that more animals will be housed here.
Whatever step the managements takes, however, it is to be hoped that they will still keep up ther school in Kowloon for it is really an asset to the place.
UGAKI IS OPTIMISTIC
THINKS JAPAN BETTER OFF THAN MOST OTHER
COUNTRIES
General Ugaki,, Governor-General of Korea, in a Press interview said that being cut of touch with Japanese politics, he cannot farm any clear idea of the present situa tion, which is evidently complex. and delicate. As for himself, he prefers a clarified atmosphere in the peninsula to the gloomy atmos phere of Tokyo. Free from poli tical ambitions, to him the rule" of Korea is of paramount impor- tance.
Some observers seem to forese the Beiyukai's final split up due to internal dissensions, but such a contingency will most probably be averted. Nor is it. likely that the Baito, Cabinet will fall before, the next session of the Diet.
With regard to the compilation of the Government-General', thêw budget, General Ugaki said, a fair understanding has been reached j Details will be discussed with the Government authorities when the Vice-General visits Tokyo either at
of the headquarters of the new Divi-the end of July or early in August.
