London, June 23. 'ME, RAMSAY MAGDONALD IN A SPEECH TO JOUR- NALISTS DECLARED THAT WITH THE APPROACHING THIRD WEEK, THE WORLD ECONOMIC CONFERENCE WERE OPTIMISTICALLY NOT SO DEPRESSED, AS WHEN LAUSANNE WAS TREMBLING IN THE BALANCE.

CONFUSION UNABATED

London, June a

THE CONFUSION IN WHICH THE WORLD ECONOMIC YESTERDAY BY THE CONFERENCE WAS THROWN AMERICAN DECLARATION IS IN NO WAY ABATED, AND ALL SIDES RECOGNISE THE FACT THAT FAILURE TO REACH A "STABILISATION AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES WOULD BE A VERY SERIOUS MATTER. THERE IS AN OMINOUS TALK OF ADJOURNING THE CONFERENCE ALTHOUGH THIS IS OFFICIALLY STERNLY DISCOURAGED. THE BRITISH HOPE IS THAT THE DISAGREEMENT IS ONLY A TEMPORARY ONE AND THAT THE INTERNAL CONDITIONS IN AMERICA MAY BE IMPROVED IN A FEW WEEKS SUFFICIENTLY TO PERMIT OF AN AGREEMENT.

HOPES REVIVED

THE PRESENCE OF M. LITVINOFF AND MME. LIT. VINOFF AT A LUNCHEON PARTY GIVEN TO-DAY BY THE PRIME MINISTER, THE RIGHT HON. MR. RAMSAY MACDONALD, HAS REVIVED HOPES FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE ANGLO-SOVIET NEGOTIATIONS OVER THE LIFTING OF THE EMBARGO AND THE RELEASE OF THE METROPOLITAN-VICKERS PRISONERS."

{"The Moscow Trial" happened too recently to need recapitü‹ tion here but it will be remembered that as a result of it, Messrs. C. I. Thornton and William Macdonald, representatives of the British firm of Metropolitan-Vickers, Ltd., were sentenced to three years and two years imprisonment respectively.

Following this a meeting of the Privy Gounell was summoned at Windsor Castle and on April 19, it was learnt that a proclama tion prohibiting the importation of Rusalan goods had been signed and would be issued in a special supplement of the Lordon Gazette that night.]
