THE NEW YAUMATI FERRIES AND THE OLD

A few days ago, a local Magis, each other by the narrowest pos trate, remarked that with the ad-sible margin. vent of the Vehicular Ferry, Jubilee The coxswains où the ferry boats Street is growing to be a very cannot be classed as anything else important thoroughfare. that we have the new wharves and improved facilities generally this defect has been very definitely re- medied.
Ever since I can remember, the old wharf hud served its purpose very faithfully. Typhoons came and typhoons went, and although the old structure had had many a shaking up, it never faltered, and no sooner were the signals down, and the ferries running again, then the vessels berthed with monotonous regularity.
Without meaning this to be an insinuation against anybody, how- ever, one really wonders how the authorities could have allowed the
wharf to have been where it was, There is nothing agninst the locality at all. In fact it was s good a place as any one could wish for. Buses stopped a few yards from the wharf; there was a taxi stand close at hand and rickshaws could be hailed quite easily. But

BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT

Just out of curiosity, I took a ride in one of the new ferry beats-the vehicular ones-a few days ago and I noticed that they were run very systematically. It was quite an ex- right onto the boat, and so perfect perience to be able to drive a car WHO OWNED THE BASKET

In this connection, I would like to make one suggestion in the hope that it will receive the considera tion of the powers-that-be. In the "hold" for motor vehicles, there Are no seats at all, and though one realises that seats would be rather in the way here, perhaps about half-a-dozen collapsible ones might be installed here, for it is rather tiring to have to sit in the car all the way across the harbour.
