Although Miss Cottle is the only woman out of 64"star" competi- in the motor cycle section, tors there are several women entrants in the motor car class. This class, which makes its first appearance in the trial since 1926, has proved very popular and has brought for word 34 entries, including Miss M. Dickson, the Brooklands driver, who was driving in a team of M.G.'s entered by the S.M.T.
She was the first of the women, drivers in the class to leave the Waverley Market from where the official starting point was made, and looked extraordinarily com petent in white overalls with blue triangle and the golden wing of the S.M.T. fixed to her breast pocket, lending a splash of colour to her rig-out.
It was not, however, the small ear that proved the most popular with women drivers, for three of them chose the new high-powered Ford V.8, the only American care entered in the trial. Among these were the Hon. Mrs. Chetwynd, wife of the Hon. Adam Duncan Chet- wvnd, heir to Viscount Chetwynd.
First to Leave,'
The first to leave the. Waverley Market were the motor cycles, head- ed by R. MacGregor, a Scots rider from Killin who was the most auc- cessful competitor last year, riding a 4.99 h.p. Rudge machine.
