"The world's largest gold coin was sold at Glendining's, at the end of last month. It is a Japanese oban, a large oval plate of gold five inches across and weighing about four ounces, and stamped with the seals of the Government Mint.

The coin was signed in Japanese ink by the superintendent of the Mint as a guarantee of its purity.
