LEAGUE TENNIS

INDIANS START SEASON WELL

FILIPINOS PROVIDE THE FIRST SURPRISE

||

The curtain to the "C" division of the tennis league was lifted yesterday when four matches were decided.

The Indian Recreation Club started their programme in fine style, taking all nine sets from the Central British Association, but despite this, their form did not impress and they would have to do much better if they want to win

the shield.

The Filipino Club provided the first surprise of the season when they beat Craigengewer Cricket Club by 3 sets to 34 but the other two games resulted as expected.

He stated that Mr. Roosevelt, while anxious for negotiations .be tween Paris and Washington, held that the payment by France of the outstanding December instalment was an indispensable condition to any action towards a settlement. The amount of this instalment would, however, be deducted from the final sum to be paid.

There seems to be little prospect of the French Chamber agreeing to make the December payment unless there were a definite promise of s moratorium for the June instal- nent.
