As is generally known the fair will occupy the ground Hoor of the Peninsula Hotel and a huge area at the junction of Nathan and Salisbury Road. preparations have been going on to make the fair a success. The com- mittee, beaded by the Hoo. Mr. J. P. Braga, has paved the way for the various firma in Hong Kong dealing in British goods to come together and exhibit their wares at the Fair. British firms have re sponded heartily and made ample' preparations during the past ionths, to display their wares to he advantage. Many firms aro engaging extra staff to cope with
the situation and there seems to
no doubt that visitors to Penin- la Totel and the adjoining Fair grounds will have plenty to sec, and some of the stalls will prove eye-openers even to the most ardent supporters of British enterprise. Several firms have arranged to give out samples of their lines while. others have engaged the services of lemonstrator at their stall. En- quiries at the present moment seem to reveal the fact that there is an undercurrent of keen. though friendly, rivalry between various firms as to the nature and extent of their exhibits.
For the moment, it is sufficient to say that all available space, both on the ground floor of the Penin- sula Hotel and the East and West wings of the big matsheds has been inken. Even the lawn across the rond has been booked up as "park- ing space" for an aeroplane which forms part of the exhibition.
The allotment of space has been a very difficult task but the work has been completed. it is hoped to the satisfaction of every one.
A feature of this year's fair will be the motor section, for which very large spaces have been reserved. This section is housed entirely in the matshed area and on entering Salisbury Road you cannot miss the motor exhibits.
British machinery will occupy a prominent place among the exhibits of some of the bigger British firmes, Of the large area booked by Messrs. Dodwell, practically, half will be devoted to motor cars and machi- nery Messrs. Shewan Tomes also have a large reservation in which it is hoped to display prominently machinery produced at Home of which they are the local agents. This firm's exhibits are in the mat shed area as are those of Messrs. Reiss. Massey & Company, whose exhibits, also, will include a British machinery and tools.
Messrs. John D. Hutchison Company have been allotted three spaces on the ground floot of the hotel, where they will display the many lines they represent. The stalla will be in three rows in the Hotel those in the middle row ne cupying the most space. The Tele- phone Company has been allotted a central pace, where they will stage the products of the Callender Cable "Co., and a complete teleprinter.
It would entail too much space to go over the exhibits of the vari- ous firms and those who are inter- ested are referred to the list below, from which one can get some iden of the position and locality of the exhibita of each company.
New Territories Produce.
It may not be generally known that a very large space has been allotted to New Territories produce and the section for poultry, pigeons and canaries. With regard to the lart, work has already commenced on the construction of it large num- ber of pens for the housing. of the birds during the four days of the Exhibition; while a fleet of lorries kindly lent to the Empire Fair Committee for the occasion will convey fresh produce from, the New Territories to the Fair every morn- |ing, and it is interesting to add, that a scheme has been arranged whereby a fresh supply could be „kept up most of the time and where- by the growers would not be the losers in case of any product re- maining unsold. Here again a word of praise is due to the Com
mittee for having, placed the
terest of the farmer above every thing else.
There seem to be nothing wanting to make the 1983 Fair in huge muc- oss. Refreshments can be ad at the Peninsula Hotel and also ay'
and one can say
"Well done!" It now remains for the firms taking part in the Exhibition to do their by the time the exhibition is due bit and get everything in readiness to be officially opened,
