The question of malaria in Kow- loon Tong has been the subject of much discussion between residents in that part of Kowloon for some time past.
There are some who
hold the view that the disease is "non-existent in Kowloon Tong; others hold that there is far too touch of it, and when one goen into the matter, odd though it may seem, it would appear that both schools of thought are right.
In the lower sections of Kowloon Tong, near Prince Edward Road, no malaris, but there is little or when one gets further into the

Ir is gratifying to know that action has last been taken in the matter of providing playing grounds for Kowloon and poor children in other parts of the Colony. The meeting recently held at the Public Works Department, at which it was unanimously decided to inaugurate a Playing Fields Association, is a

One feature of the newly-formed Association which impresser us most favourably is the generous offers of financial support to the playing grounds scheme which have been made, quite spontaneously, by several sports clubs in the Colony, As we have pointed out in previous leading articles on this topic, some of the choicest land in Kowloon is held by private recreation clubs to which the public are not admitted and to which the poor and their children are not eligible for mem hership. The clubs in question have every right to this land, but it seemed a triffè unjust that no provision should have been made for those who cannot afford to be

Recently, the disease was so pre- valeat in this part of Kowloon Tong that several complaints were sent in to the Medical Officer of Health who stated that he had passed on the complaints to the proper quar- ters for action.
In the course of a conversation with a prominent local medical inactitioner, I was told that there was plenty of malaria in Kowloon Tong, but he would rather not make any statement. M

Dr. Sousa informed me that as far as he knew, the Kent flond district was the only part of Kowloon Tong affected by this dis- inse, and even then, only those people living in the houses border ing the nullah are troubled by malaria.
Dr. Seusa said that at one period he had se many as eleven patients living in this district and in each case the complaint was' malignant malaria. He accordingly rent a report to the Health Officer and has since received a reply that the matter was being taken up by the proper authorities who had already found out the type of mosquito that "thrived" in this district.
A Pernicious Nuilah.
I asked Dr. Sousa if he did not think it necessary to fill-up the nullah as suggested by one of the residents. but he replied that this could not be done. What could be done, and should be done, added Dr. Sousa, was that the nullah be properly drained, Another useful thing to do would be to pour a generous quantity of oil into the zullah as this would put a stop to the insects breeding.
Danger to tite District,
I sought the view of another eld resident of Kowloon Tong and this gentleman was very much troubled by this mosquito menace. He said that he had stayed on in Kowloon Tong for years in the hope that all the malaria would be wiped out, but year after year the same thing One resident told me that he had happens.
