Fire Precautions.

Regarding fire precautions the. re assuring statement is vouchsafed that, the Committee has been in communication with the Honourable the Inspector General of Police whose conditions permitting the erection of the Pavilion are being carried out. The plan for the Pavilion has been submitted to the Fire Brigade Authorities on whose advics the recommendation for greater safety has been adopted in an alteration of the layout. At least six fre: foam, extinguishers will be installed; Mesara. A, W. V. Turner (Hong Kong), Ltd., have undertaken their installation and maintenance for the period of the Fair at a nominal cost.

Since then Kowloon has made suchtection from rain. rapid, progress that, looking back on those early days of its history, one can only marvel at the courage and enterprise of those pioneers who laid the foundations. To-day new impetus has been given to industry on the Mainland by the electrification of the Now Terri- tories, and the power station of the China Light & Power Co., Ltd., is in already supplying factories bulk. The scheme offer unlimited possibilities for the expansion of focal industry, for the growth of Kowloon calls for a steady load of bulk, which the company supply in addition to the lighting load by day and night. Its greatest enter- prise was the extensive scheme to supply the New Territories with electricity for public and private lighting, which has now been com- pleted. It will not be surprising if, before very long, electricity is supplied beyond the British frontier to Chinese territory. The scheme presents no insuperable difficulties and the extent and importance of the enterprise from the British point of view, as well as from that

of the benefits which would accrue to consumers of electricity is not difficult to visualise. The cables for the whole of the electricity system operated in the leased territory are of British manufacture, being the product of Callender's Cable and Construction Co., Ltd In the in- terests of taxpayers in England, the potential value of Kowloop as a market and an exhibition ground for the demonstration of British machinery and articles of British mantifacture cannot be over-em- phasised

Patrons of the New Territories section will be rendering not only patriotic service by making their purchases of farm produce at the Fair on May 24 and 25 but they can be assured of an absolutely reliable supply of fresh eggs, pota toss and vegetable equal to the best of the imported agricultural pro- duce. New Territories farmers ob tain in advance retail prices for their supplies in bulk and are re- lieved of all cost of transportation charges. They are thus the prin cipal beneficiaries of the Fair.
