Presiding over the annual meeting of the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company, Limited, the Hon. Mr. J. J. Paterson gave a comprehensive review of the shipping situation in China, and sounded an optimistic note when he drew attention" to the fact that the losses of the company have been diminishing progressive- ly during the past three years,

The Chairman also availed himself of the opportunity to thank the U.S.S. Oahu for rendering protection to one of the Comm- pany's steamers in the Yangisse and also to H.M. Navy for their assistance on numerous occasions.
