ARMY'S ONE DONKEY
"SOMEWHERE" IN THE BRITISH COLONIES
There is only one donkey in the British Army. Its reappearance among the 17,000 animals on the ration strength needs explaining. There is a certain reluctance in making known the place where the animal "joined up." All that is told in the official statistics is that it is in the Colonies.
Presumably there has somewhere been a breakdown of mechanical transport, and the donkey has been called from the Reserve.
Military records show each year how persistently the petrol engine is ousting the horse and the mule, and it was understood that the last has been seen of the camel and the donkey, so far as the peace es. tablishment was concerned. Hence the consternation, among the "me a donkey had reappeared "on the chanists" when they learned that
