The Valley Stakes found the favourite unplaced. The Pan- ther who was second favourite, after leading most of the way," slowed down vialbly on the band before reaching the home straight and although he ran well again in the straight, had to be satisfied with second place. Gay Butterfly ridden by Butler won the race, with The Panther and Glorious Day second, and third respectivaly.
In the Australian Sprint Event, Wolin's lightweight proved too much for Poler Star and City of Brisbane and he won by a length from the ex-champion.
SITTING BULL BEATEN OUT OF PLACE
who like to see close finishes, and there were several very near things. Sitting Bull, starting for the mile and hall race a warm favourite, failed to be placed. The race went to Bag-and-Baggage who won by a short head from Sadko, with Gay- Crusader third. The two Dynasty candidates, Hotman and King's Justice came in next and Sitting Bull was last. Mr. Frost who rode Sitting Bull chose the front posi- tion oarly in the race where he ran alongside the long-striding Sadko, but never managed to got actually in front. Bag and Baggage oame along from the rear in the home straight to win by the barest of margin from Sadko, "while Gay Crusader and King's Justice fought out third place.
