Stott of the Public Works Department said that he had warn ed the squatters to clear off time and again, but on many occasions within two hours of demolition they had started re-erecting their hute. Even when poles were chop- ped, they tied them up and utilis ed them again. The trouble was not only at Seymour Road, bat also at the rear of houses in Village Road. Flats there used to rent st 8120 each, but owing to the nuisanca caused by the presence of the squatters, the rents were only about $90.
His Worship suggested burning the demolished material.
Mr. Stott replied that the Sani- tary Department had done that two years ago, but found they had done wrong. There was no power for such action.
His Worship suggested throwing. the material into the sea, and 'this course was ordered.
A woman was discharged and the other defendants were each fined
