Silver prices were substantially higher yesterday to the extent of 0/10 for both deliveries, quotations being 17.15/16 for Ready and 15 for Forward. Silver advices reported America and speculators as having bought. China sold. The tone at the close was firm with America offering" to buy at 1/9. over the quoted rates. In America the rate was quoted at 28.5/10 for Spot.

The New York/London cross-rate was low at 3.41.

Firm but quiet.

Sterling.

A small business was done at 1/3 for cash and 1/3.2/32 May. The market closed with sellers at 1/3. 29/32 April/May and 1/3.15/10 June, buyers at 1/3.15/10 April and prob- ably May and 1/4 June,
