INTERESTING TALK ON AMERICAN BANKING SYSTEM BY MR. M. A. COOPER

A very representative gathering of both branches of the legal profession together with several leading business men were present at the annual dinner of the Law and Commerce Society of the Hong Kong University which was held at Lane Crawford's Re- staurant on Saturday night

Among those present were the Hop. Mr. O. G. Allabaster, K.C., Hon, Dr. 8. W. Tso, Mr. Justice R. E. Lindsell, Mr. H. C. Macnamara, Professor and Mrs. R. K. M. Simpson, Pro- fessor O. A. Middleton Smith, Mr. M. K. Lo, Mr. Hig Shing Lo, Mr. Wong Kwong Tin, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Handyside.

After the toast of "The King" and "The Republic of China,' the Chairman of the Society, Mr. Soo Chong Hee, proposed the toast of "Our Guests," Mr. H. C. Macnamara replying.

The toast of "The Society" was proposed by the Hon. Mr. C. G. Alabaster and Mr. M. A. Cooper, President of the Society replying to the toast gave an interesting talk on the economic situation to-day, with particular reference to the banking system in America.
