The start of the game was excit. land had kicked off, we were shout ing ourselves hoarse with excite- mont, for "Kackson punted ahead, Brown misfielded, and Lan Smith raced up and dribbled on with Novie alongside him. A try for Scotland seemed certain, but Novis was amazing--never had he run so fast before; Ian Smith was over the line with the ball at his feet, when Novis overhauled him and fell full length on the bali, A glorious

effort!

Scotland's Try.

The surprise of the match was the greater imaginative scope shown by Jackson as compared with Elliot, but it would be unfair to blame Elliot for England's defeat, for in the later stages of the game when England was faced with the neces sity of out-maneuvring where out pacing had proved impossible, he reueted quite well to the needs of the situation. The first English dienster came just before the in- terval when Gerrard pulled a muscle as he was running, Novis came into the centre, and immediately Scot- Iand stored. Lorraine began it by beating Novis and passing to Lind, who kicked ahead for Fyfe to dribble over the line and touchdown for the only try, of the match.

Scotland have now won 23 times to England'a 22.

in the hope that Watson would got to it. Instead the ball went for a corner fand from Stein's flag kick, Dunn honded in for Everton. West Haan's goal, obtained in the 43rd minute, was in strange contract for it was the result of a brilliant movement. The ball was flashed from Collins to V. Watson, thenec to Wilson and Moreton, for Watson eventually to head in. The second blunder was made when the game was drawing to a close, when Bar rett instead of quickly getting rid of the ball, preferred to dribble. He overran the ball and Critchlet was left with a atrhight way to goal, which he took and scored. In this match Everton wore much ba low their own standard while, on the other hand, West Ham were much above it, particularly in the second half.'

Arsenal 1; Wolverhampton W. 2.

March 18.It was a surprise when Wolverhampton W. boat Arsenal on their own ground on Saturday, thus they unexpectedly improved their own position and at the same time made the championship position. They were the still more open. better team with the botter' tactics and their win was not a fluke.

Amongst other matches played on the 18th were:-

Blackpool B Aston Villa 2.

In this last match P. Watson, who has come to be regarded as one of the best centre halves in the country, at centre-forward in the Blackpool team, scored three <f the goals for Blackpool and in ad- dition showed that he has all the makings of a first class leader of the attack. Blackpool played sur prisingly well, especially before the interval when the Villa were rarely out of their own half.
