RUSSIAN TRADE
BILL
COMMONS PASS SECOND READING
[THROWON REUTER'S AGENCY]
LONDON, April 5. AFTER a lengthy debate follow ing the motion by Sir Staffor. Cripps for the rejection of the Russian Trade Bill, granting pow ers of prohibition, a second ra ing was granted to the Bill.
The Labour motion for rejection was inevitably defented, by 217 Votes to 48, the Samuelite Liberals refraining from voting.
Efforts were then made by the Labour Opposition to induce the Government to introduce modifie tions, and Mr. Walter Runcima President of the Board of Trace, agreed sympathetically to considér a suggestion by Mr. George Lans bury, that there be inserted in the Bill a time-limit to its operation. so as to ensure that it dealt only with the arrests and not with the whole of the Anglo-Russian trades question.
