FIVE STAR FINAL
STRONG HIT FANTASTIC STORY OF JOURNALISM
Five Star Final, showing at the Queen's Theatre is a grim and vivid story of American. Yellow Press methoxis. It tells of a newspaper those proprietor and departmental chiefs rake up the story of a twenty year-old murder, and play up the Inote that the woman who commit tod the evime is now a charming And respected member of local acciety, and her daughter is on the eve of a brilliant match.
The glare of publicity is thrown on the household, and the "mur- derers of n score of years ago in her despair commits suicide and her husband follows: suit; their daughter's fiance is disinherited for refusing to call off the marriage; the, girl goes round to shoot the litor and proprietor, but is just prevented in time. The wretched editor resigns--he has had conscience about the whole matter, and there the film ends. It is not meat for babes, but it is extremely good en- tertainmont.
We do not know whether this sort of thing goes on in America, or is merely Hollywood imagination. If newspaper in the British Empire tried that kind of game it would he quickly downed. Olior papers would begin the process, probably the populace would wreck the office, and no doubt a British jury would award idamagea sufficient, not to compensate the victims but to bankrupt the offenders. Five Star Final is, in fact, a mere fantasy of journalism-a warning if you like, of what might happen. It is always a difficult task to judge where publicity has to be given, even if it means personal suffering, Int the gratuitous torturing of in dividuals for the sake of a stunt, is not a danger that has any substance where British in- titutions prevail.

Mention must also be made of Graham Boutten 그림 the arch criminal Jonathan Small and Miles Malleson as a timid little man who is caught up in the whirlpool of
ovents.
