I think most of the readers of the "Nautical" are familiar with
the name of the Officers Federation, an organisation which is seeking
to better the hard life of the mer- chant officer, and to help him in every way possible. My husband, Admiral Nelson-Ward, has been the President of the Federation for sotne years, and, through him, I have come to know Mr. Coomba, the indefatigable General Manager. One day, I suggested to Mr. Coombs that perhaps there might be a pos- sibility of starting an organisation side by side with the Officers Federa tion.
Why should not the womer folk help, for they share in all the wrongs and injustices which press so hardly on the merchant officer!
They are often lonely, and their interests in life are so specialised, that they feel themselves cut off from their fellow women whose men- folk return each evaning to the com-
forts of home.
