He was 75 years of age and was born in Singapore, and most of his career was spent in local waters He was the son of Captain Mark Moss, also a famous skippet of bis day, who brought his own vessel to Singapore in 1838 and lived here until be died in 1872.
On one occasion his ship, the Iron Duke, was attacked by pirates and Captain Mark, although wounded: jumped overboard and clung to the. rudder until he was rescued by Captain Koppel,
