BAD BUILDING AT KOWLOON CITY

Conviction Upheld At Second Hearing

FINE AND DEMOLITION

The case in which Chan Yeung, a building contractor was fined $300 for having used inferior ma- terial in the "construction of a building on KIL. No. 2794, Sung Street, Kowlo City was reheard at the Kowloon Magistracy yester day when Mr. C. Y. Kwan, appear ing for the defendant, asked for a

reduction of the fine."

It will be recalled that" at the first hearing, Mr. A. F. Reynolds, who appeared for the prosecution, described the cement used in the construction as the worst seen in Kowloon, and that the whole struc ture was "shocking."

The defendant denied the allega- tions, and said that the materials were used with the approval of the architects, Mesars, J. S. Gibson and Company. This statement was re- futed by Mr. Gibson yesterday.

In asking for a reduction of the fine, Mr. Kwan said that accord- ing to the newspaper account of the case, the prosecution had alleg ed that it was the worst case they had brought into Court. He now asked Mr. Gibson, the architect of the building complained of, to give evidence on the technical points.
