NEW ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET

SIR FREDERICK FIELD'S APPOINTMENT

(Special Air-Mail Service)-

LONDON, Jan. 31. Admiral Sir Frederick Field, *K.C.B., K.C.M.G., who was relieved yesterday as First See Lord of the Admiralty by Admiral Sir A. Erule Chatfield, has been promoted to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet, to date Jan, 21, in the vacancy caused by the retirement of Admiral of the Fest Sir Henry Oliver în completing five years in that rank.

This proaution will be warmly greeted by the whole Navy, in which Sir Frederick Field enjoys an" unusual degree of esteem and affection. It is a fitting climax to a long and distinguished career in high command.

Admiral Field, who will be 02 in April, has served nearly half-a- century in the Navy. As a lieuten- ant ha was lauded for active service

in China during the Boxer Rebel lion of 1800, among his comrades in arma being Admirala Jellicoe, Beatty, and Keyes.

At the Battle of Jutland he cou manded H.M.S. Monarch, and sub- sequently became Chief of Staff to Admiral Sir Charles Madden, Second in Command of the Grand Fleet. Early in 1918 he went to the Admiralty as Director of Torpedoes and Mining,

Since that date he has been in continuous employment, holding in succession the appointments of Third Son Lord, Admiral Command- ing the Battle Cruiser Squadron, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Com...:) mander-in-Chief of the Mediterran- ehu Fleet, and, finally, Firet Sen Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff. In 1024-25 Admiral Field, com- manded the Special Squadron, eon- sisting of the Hood, Repute, and five light cruisers, which in the space of ten months steamed round the world. visiting practically every British Dominion and Colony. There is not the least doube that the great success of this Empire cruise was dne largely to Adnúral Field's personality and charm.

Here is a picture that will make history. Not only at the box office where its appeal is obvious. But sa a picture upon which the screen may step forward to a new era of artistry.

Exceptional Acting.

Although Ben Lyon and Sally Eilers never worked together in a picture until they made "Hat Check Girl" recently for Fox Films, Ben has good reason to remember the lady for four years ago she was his first airplane passenger.

At that time the actor-aviator, then working in "Hell's Angels, has just won his private pilot's license and was feeling very proud of his aeronautical ability. The license gave him the right to take up non-paying passengers for a trip, but somehow none of Ben's iminediate friends kvinced any enthusiasm over his offers to show them California from the air, and some of them even intimated that they preferred to do their flying behind a more experienced pilot.

Sally Eillers happened to come along about that time, however, and being ready to try anything once, the climbed into Lyon's ship and wont aloft, with the actor some what nervour over his responsibil ity at the controls. Since that time, both players have become consider ably more accustomed to the air,
