Mr. Alexander Oglive, proprietor of the Airlie Hotel said that he had known the deceased for over four years, during which time Capt. Purvis had been a resident at the hotel. On the night of January 15 a dance was held at the hotel, which the deceased at tended. He was not present at the time of the accident and did not take a serious view of the matter until the deceased developed con- vulsions when he immediately sent for Dr. Matthews. He saw Capt.
