Tsai, Printing and Publishing, Mr. Neil Gorman En- gineering, Dr. R.L. Lancaster Medicine, Mr. J. Linuker, Customs, Mr. Wong Po Keung, Coal In- dustry, Mr. C. Y. Liang, Tobacco Industry, Mr. James Carnegie, Jr., Electric Industry, Mr. Wm. J. King, Chemical Distributing..

· Dr, W. W. Comfort, President of Haverford College, U.S.A., and member of the Board of Trusteer, ' Lingnan University, who was the speaker of the day, addressing the gathering said :-

To me the great interest of this. organization is the fact that you have attempted to bring back into business and professional relations the spirit of comradeship, good- followship, fairness and justice and honesty in business and professional dealings. There is so much need for them expecially perhaps in interna tional settlements like this at Can- ton, where for two or three centuries French, Dutch, Portuguese, English and American merchants and busi new men have come to seek for that rich trade, which lies within their reach at Canton and in the country back of it I do not think there. can be too many of these institu- tions which, seek to bring together men of different. occupations, differ ent professions and different na tionalities.

Canton the Melting Pot.

It is certain that most of the misunderstanding and of the hatred and suspicion and fear which have. gripped so many countries since the world war are explained by the fact that we do not know each other well enough, that we have not -enough personal and intimate friends on the other side of the boundary. Now here at Cantón you have perfect melting pot (4 am so glad to hear that the ma jority of-members in this chapter of Botary, sin Chinese, That of course is as it should be in #Chin- ese city, and yet both foreignern and Chinese can learn from each other 60 much of kindliness and forbear- anca and goodwill that it will be come almost impossible for members. of a club like this to think with
