The agreement, it is claimed, wil secure higher production for the employer, and in consequence bet-' ter wages for the workers, despite the cut, while the new conciliation machinery should ensure the avoid- ance of further disputes,

governments represent the counter- part of agreements with the Domin ions reached at Ottawa and together these mark a new departure in British trade policy which is at tracting much attention.
Invitations have already been issued to the Argentine, Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish Governments, and proposals for tariff arrangements from the Uruguayan Government are also receiving consideration.
Close trading relations between Britain and the Scandinavian coun-- tries have existed for centuries. The Treaty with Denmark is drawn up $1.45 in Latin and dates from 1670, and is the oldest most-favoured-nation treaty in existence. The denuncia- tion of existing treaties in not con- templated, as modifications within their framework will suffice.

CANADIAN TOBACCO POPULAR IN U.K.
AUGUST EXPORTS NEARLY DOUBLE THOSE OF PREVIOUS AUGUST
Ottawa, Sept. 22.-The popula 50rity of Canadian tobacco in the United Kingdom is steadily in- 102creasing. During the eight months ending with August 1932, a total of 8,930,568 lbs. of Canadian tobac- co valued at $2,845,380 was export- ed to Great Britain as compared
with a total of 4,017,128 lbs. valued
at 81,420,809 for the corresponding period of 1831. The increase both 13 in quantity and value is thus ap-
proximately 100 per cent.
Bright flue cured appears to be the most popular variety for the British market, Burley coming
second.
Statistics available here indicate that tobacco manufacturing in the
