INDIAN MEDICAL DEGREES

NOT TO BE RECOGNISED IN CEYLON

The recognition of Indian Me- dieal degrees in Coylon was subject of an interview given to a representative of the Times of Cuylon by Prof. F. O'Brien Elli son, the Registrar of the Ceylon Medical College.

He stated that it had been de- cided that all Indian medical qualiscations obtained after Feb.. 24, 1000, would not be recognised in Ceylon. Thus, all medical practioners, whu obtained Indian degrees after that date, would be prohibited by law from practising in Ceylon.

This decision had been reached Medical Council in England, who owing to the ruling of the Ceneral for about 10 years tried unsuccess- fully to come to an agreement with The the, Indian medical schools. main reason for the restriction was Indian that the standard of the low, when compared with those of medical examinations was far too the English universities.

There are a number of Indian qualified doctors practising in Cey- lon, and they will be allowed this privilege, in view of the fact that they were registered before Feb 24, 1930.
