It is not so much the waist line, which in some cases is moved higher than last season's and in others lower, but the interest of the drese apart from the waist line, whether it is day or evening, is accentuated arount the rib line.

The screen is essentially decora tive without being particularly use- ful. But it need not take up too much space, and, well chosen, will obviate many sad mistakes in the choice of pictures or ornaments of doubtful pedigree.
For though the screen has be come smaller of necessity, it has regained much importance in the ahceme of thinga. Placed in the right spot it is able to provide all the colour and design necessary to convert a dull, as-interesting room into one of personality.

According to Mr. F. C. Scase, of Messrs. Swan and Edgar, Ltd., the draper of pro-war days was able to satisfy all his, women 'cuitomers if he stocked five different sizes in garments and six different styles of shoes To-day he had to stock at least 30 different styles of shoes. In addition, he must employ staff of export fitters to carry out ¦ alternations,
"This increase in the number of sizes stocked by the draper of to- day is not because the women of to day vary so much more in their build from their grandmothers' but because the modern woman demanda better fit," he said." STUDIED SIMPLICITY
IN DRESS.
FASHION NOTES FROM PARIS,
We talk about the simplicity of clothes to-day, but never before has i the simple effect been so elu- died Twenty years ago gowns and suits were out with numerous gussets, nothing was loft plain, everything was trimmed in some way. But no ont said these clothes were simple. On the contrary; tho woarers prided themselves on their elegant fussiness We moderns aro horrified at the word "fussy;" be- cause it suggests bad taste and lack of clothes sense. The liurs of cur clothes are certainly becoming mon complicated, but the complization is due to elever entting rather than to trimmings.
Cunning Flare and Panel. What set me ofl In this lines was seeing a frock of fine spitted Colton which, although simple enough, was perfectly cus The skirt had a front panel which tapered to a point towards the waist and finished a little way up on the bodice. The back was cut in a fare, and a belt marked the waist at sides and back, but did not cross thanfrout panel. The bo dies was slightly pouched over the belt, and the sleeves were merely epnulottes set into the bodice with

Variety in Neckline. Necklines are decidedly higher, expect on some tennis frocks which have the deep square line. Many sports and walking models have quite high round necks coming up to the base of the throat; others have the high oval line and still others the shallow. "boat" neck from shoulder to shoulder.
The rage for wool lace has not abated at all. The simple fish-net pattern is used for frocks, cardi- gan coats, and little jurapors with || round Decks and short sleeves.
